Many people turn to the availability of psychic readings in a wide variety of forms as a helpful source for insight into the direction of their life up to that point and advice as to the changes they should expect to take place or future developments they should be dealing with. Though many people may feel that a psychic reading is unnecessary and even ill-advised due to the lack of scientific support for the various uses imputed to psychic readings by their supporters, they should be aware of the array of forms in which a psychic reading can be accessed and of the history that lies behind the use of psychic readings. They should also be aware of the necessity for showing respect to what has been demonstrated by statistical surveys to be a wide segment of the population, largely cutting across differences in regional distribution and in level of education received, which states that it holds the concept of a psychic reading to be a valid method for accessing information about a person’s life. People who do belong to that segment of the population which believes in and at times calls on the services of psychic abilities should also go about their search for and application of this knowledge with an informed sense of the forms in which it exists. One particular way for getting a psychic reading through the history of belief has been the use of tarot cards, which have a fascinating history lying behind their enigmatic symbolism.

The existence of tarot cards in their basic form predates the development of their use as a means for performing a psychic reading. Historians have indicated the tarot card pack has been an element in culture since the middle of the fifteenth century. It existed from that point in time to the late eighteenth century as a card game that was popular among the nobility of certain countries of Europe but was not held to be of great informational, symbolic or spiritual significance. In some sources for psychic readings information can be found indicating that the use of the tarot card derives from the occult cultures of ancient Egypt or of the Jewish system of belief known as the Kabbalah, but historical enquiries have only verified the start of the use of tarots as a means for psychic reading to the end of the eighteenth history, in the era in which European culture was being convulsed by the French Revolution. The first widespread publicizing of the use of the tarot for psychic readings came with the publication in 1781 of a text by a Swiss clergyman named Antoine Court de Gebelin, who drew on his place in the culture of Freemasonry to assert that the symbols used in the card game derived from ancient Egyptian traditions. This assertion was later disproved by scholarly work that uncovered the true meaning of the Egyptian hieroglyphics, which at that time were untranslated and not understood in regard to the meaning they conveyed.

For many people free psychic readings are a means of gaining knowledge about the past and future direction of their life as well as soliciting advice about the actions they should take in the future. Though one option for gaining the same desired services of advice and direction is to consult an in-person psychic, often at a business establishment requiring the payment of a fee, people who are interested in a getting a free psychic reading should be aware that there are many such sources available through the Internet. In the past commercially-offered and free psychic readings have been most available through the services offered through permanent business establishments and as vendors at craft fairs, but in the digitally driven age people who are interested in obtaining the insight and information offered by a consultation with a free psychic reading should be aware of the wide expansion in such services through the online market for information. Though some people may still prefer to seek out the highly advertised sources for advice based on psychic abilities that is offered in exchange for the payment of a fee, they should have a high level of awareness of free psychic readings even if only to implement the advice offered by some observers of the free psychic reading field to the effect that free psychic readings can be a useful tool for preparing for the prospect and the experience of paying for psychic services. Free psychic readings as offered by many websites available online should thus be an option in the back of the mind of consumers interested in this area of consultation.
Many people may feel interested in the possible uses to be gleaned from the consultation with a psychic consultant but also hesitant due to the opprobrium directed from some quarters of society at the accuracy and factual basis for the usefulness of a paid-for or free psychic reading. Therefore, people involved in the business of providing psychic consultations to interested consumers have spoken of the availability of free psychic readings as offered through online sites as a possible and useful way of gaining some level of comfort with the process that can then be put to work in the environment of actually seeking out psychic advice in person and in public. Initial bashfulness over the prospect of going for a psychic reading can thus be dismantled early on.
Another use that is offered by the easy availability of websites online with free psychic reading services is the acquisition of some preliminary information on your needs in regards to psychic consultation that can thus be put to use providing some orientation as to the kind of advice that is later asked of a professional psychic in a commercial setting. After a person consults a free psychic reading available through an online site he or she may have gained a new sense of the degree to which an in person consultation is necessary and advisable as a financial decision to be made.

The existence of psychic mediums as an observable and provable phenomenon in the world is a contentious issue for modern science, which has difficulty adapting its principles of scientific methodology and data analysis to the claims made on the behalf of purported psychic medium abilities. In the scientific community today, some journals and laboratories exist for the testing of people who claim to be psychic mediums, but there is not broad based support for such efforts mainly due to the issuing of general reports from scientists and researchers over time that disputed the effectiveness and ability of research methods devised for the field to determine that a psychic medium might actually be able to accomplish what he or she claimed. Psychic mediums generally refer less to scientific consensus or research than to beliefs that are widely held and are essentially rooted in the modern folk culture of urban myth, which does not derive its authority from the officially sanctioned pronouncements of peer-reviewed papers or speeches at academic conferences but rather from the anecdotal incidents and general beliefs that are spread through the social cultures that profess a belief in the existence of the powers of a psychic medium.
The essential belief that lies behind the existence and practice of psychic mediums is the idea of an ability on the part of the psychic medium to make contact with spiritual entities of conscious perception from some plane of existence defined as being placed apart from that of humans and allowing access to esoteric forms of knowledge. The cultures and mythologies of early recorded history have to be seen to manifest on a general basis a belief in the existence of such people as could now be understood to represent examples of psychic mediums, with such beliefs on the part of cultures organized according to a tribal structure generally being referred to as shamanism. In such cultures the shaman generally assumed a primary role of providing leadership, knowledge and advice, and was revered throughout the social structure. In societies organized according to more recent models, the role of the psychic medium has become more marginal, sometimes due to the disapproval expressed on the part of the dominant mode of religion or because of disbelief expressed by commonly accepted authorities for the transmission of scientific knowledge. In the Western cultures that toward the end of the second millennia A.D. were providing much of the leadership in development of scientific knowledge and methods, scientific mediums had no widely accepted role as sources of information, though folk cultures continued to express belief in their abilities. The idea of the scientific medium experienced a revival, however, in powerful Western nations such as England, where intellectuals and other educated members of upper and middle class society sought an alternative to the perceived excesses of the new scientifically and industrially based world by pursuing an interest in the possible existence of the powers purported to be shown by the scientific medium, leading to new research in that field.

The field of parascience is generally defined by participants and members in the scientific community to embrace the study of the possible existence of psychic and extrasensory powers in people and the existence of life after death and physical manifestations of such metaphysical matters in the physical realm, such as in the form of ghosts. In the academic community of theorizing and research the idea of pursuing para science is still a contentious and not particularly popular one, as the general consensus among scientists and researchers is that the practices associated with parascience have failed to produce any tangible methods according to the widely adhered-to standards of the scientific method. Practitioners of parascience in part must face the difficulty of synthesizing beliefs in entities and occurrences that arose from an intellectual moment apart from the modern day emphasis in science on provability and data gathering, and in many cases arise from folk culture or its modern equivalent in urban myth. Para science presents the challenges and opportunities of dealing with beliefs usually perceived as non- and even anti-scientific in a scientific setting and attempted to understand the subjects of parascience in the context of a physically manifest and observable world.

The 19th century saw a large increase in the growth of interest among educated and socially well connected people in beliefs that would now fall under the heading of para science, including the exhibition of supernatural powers in contexts such as the observation of the ritual known as a seance or in the investigation into the existence of ghosts which were believed to haunt certain houses or places. This upward trend in the practice of parascience, though it was not yet referred to as such, is speculated by historians and sociologists to be a reaction to the corresponding rise in the sophistication and uses of science then being offered and the corresponding growth in technology and industry. The belief in psychic abilities and supernatural entities was viewed as being somewhat separate from the world dominated by scientifically based methods and thus possessed an emotional attraction for many people. The academic research that was conducted into the existence of such parascience phenomena was then known as psychical research. In the nineteen-thirties the term parascience was adopted to indicate that research in the field would from that point on be adhering more to experimental procedures for gathering and testing data. Another large step for the study of para science, specifically within the area of the United States, took place in 1957 with the establishment of the Parapsychological Association, which in 1969 became attached to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, largely through the efforts of the famed researcher in anthropology Margaret Mead. With this firm basis of professional support established for research into parascience, the nineteen-seventies proved to be a high point for the academic study of para science, in part due to widespread interest throughout popular culture in occult phenomena. By the 1980s, however, para science was experiencing a downward shift.

The concept of paranormal phenomena derives from the persistent controversy over beliefs that are widely held through the general population of a culture or within specific communities in that culture to be true and observable occurrences but cannot be verified through the scientific method or by comparison to the body of information already proven through science. Occurrences that might otherwise fall within the realm of supernatural or religious belief become prone to interpretation as paranormal activity when placed within the context of a culture that privileges the combination of empirical observation and thinking based on the precepts of the scientific method over other sources of information. From a historical perspective, the idea that certain kinds of knowledge could be defined as paranormal dates back the 1910s. The 19th century had seen an expansion in scientific thinking and the implementation of science to create technology and conduct natural research that was coupled with and perhaps responded to by an increased interest in occurrences that would now be defined as paranormal activity. In the 20th century, the scientific community began to respond to the interest of unproven or supernatural phenomena such as psychic powers for gathering information or in the existence of ghosts by formulating the paranormal category to place such things in a scientific context without giving them the benefit of the doubt.

The scientific community has long been exercised by the question of the existence of certain kinds of phenomena that cannot be currently proven through available sources of data or methodological tools, which nonetheless cannot be judged to constitute paranormal activity. These hypothesized ideas include dark matter and dark energy, which do not meet the definition of paranormal phenomena in the sense that proposals exist for reconciling them with currently known and recognized scientific facts. The phenomenon that are identified as paranormal activity, by contrast, are commonly derived not from the speculations that arise in the scientific community itself, but from urban myths or folkloric beliefs. Another common source for ideas that are classified as paranormal by researchers are those firmly asserted to be proven in incidents or anecdotes that are given by individual people but cannot be connected to or proven through subsequent data gathering or comparisons to already available data.
The members of the category generally defined as being paranormal which most strongly and aptly fit the requirements for meeting the definition that was introduced to make use of the term for the purposes of science are those that relate to claims made for the existence of ghosts and other manifestations claimed to exist or to be observable in the physical world which show the persistence of a deceased soul or spirit. Commonly observed varieties of paranormal activity are sounds, sights or even perceived feelings that are felt by the observer to be without any possible explanation other than that of the existence of ghosts. The belief in such paranormal activity is both widespread in the general community and considered unprovable by science.

The proposition that individuals exist who possess what are popularly referred to as psychic abilities has constituted a tantalizing but difficult subject for investigation by scientific researchers and individuals. Though the kinds of abilities manifested by psychics might be properly supposed to constitute a kind of supernatural activity, the scientists who have worked in this field have sought to determine if psychic phenomena could ever be subjected to rigorous testing as determined by the precepts of the scientific method. One important component of this field that has preceded the performance of theoretical speculation as to the possible basis of psychic abilities in nature has been the conducting of tests of self-claimed or otherwise identified psychics. A well known example of this technique that has long been in use for research into the existence of psychics is referred to as the Ganzfeld experiment. The main principle of this psychic research method is the inducement of a condition resembling sensory deprivation, a technique which has been in common use since the 1930s.

To be officially considered a psychic for the purposes of scientific codification, an individual must be proven to possess the ability to gain access to the mental processes of another person through paranormal means. The hypothesis that the Ganzfeld experiment could yield verifiable results pointing to the conclusive judgment that a test subject possessed psychic powers was first formed in the early nineteen seventies, an era in scientific research and thought that was marked by widespread interest in the possible existence of paranormal powers that could manifest long speculated abilities in terms of “reading” other people’s thoughts without their knowledge or permission. A researcher who had been conducting research on dreams and extra sensory perception through the Maimonides Medical Center named Charles Honorton realized that the state of sensory deprivation which was thought to be a possible means for enabling the existence of psychic powers could be created through the employment of the technique of the Ganzfeld experiment. The results of this research was then published in 1974 in a medical journal, establishing the ganzfeld experiment as a central criterion for evaluating psychics.
gGanzfeld experiments have been conducted at a steady rate in the decades since the research methodology for evaluating psychics was first established. Surveys of this field of experimental inquiry have found that eight-eight tests were held between 1974 and 2004. After first formulating and vocally advocating for this kind of research as a means for evaluating the possible existence of psychic abilities, Charles Honorton has continued to hold up the experimental method as a reliable and effective procedure, sometimes arriving at vocal disagreements with his fellow researchers over the high claims he makes for the Ganzfeld procedure. He presented a paper at a conference on the field of psychic research in 1982 that asserted that thus far analysis of the results of Ganzfeld experiments suggested that psychics really could use the powers they claimed to have, a finding which was countered by another participant’s paper.

Enthusiasts for the study of astronomy and constellations have an array of technological options available to them in the digitally driven age, in which applications which were previously performed through analog methods are now being realized through Internet- and computer-based technology are being provided for the general use of the astronomy field. A growing number of available options for the investigation of and study by the amateur in astronomy have been created by prominent software and technology developers. One notable instance of the production of a technical tool for the general public’s known interest in familiarizing itself with the identification of constellations occurred in 2008. At this point, Microsoft announced and placed on the market a beta version of a device referred to by the company the Worldwide Telescope (WWT), which received favorable reviews from general consumer reports websites and journals specializing in generally available technology. This astronomy function allows people to look at images of constellations in the available form of a client-based application. After the Worldwide Telescope capability had been available in the form of a client-based application for astronomy enthusiasts for some time, Microsoft made the capability available to users in the form of a Silverlight device based through the web. In 2010, Microsoft announced and then implemented the WorldWide

Telescope technology as an application available through the Bing Maps service.
The essential point of the Bing Maps-enabled version of Microsoft’s WorldWide Telescope technology for the pursuit of an interest in constellations is to allow people the ability to see the constellations at any given point in time as they would really appear through the function of a sophisticated piece of astronomy equipment. This function has been set up by Microsoft to work in essentially the same way as the more commonly known and established Bing Maps capability for grabbing an area of the sky as shown on the digital map and dragging it to a different point on the map. The creation of the Bing Maps-version of the preexisting WorldWide Telescope is thus intended to heighten the ease of use and access to an important field of astronomy information for the amateur and consumer through the introduction of a function that has previously been employed mainly in regards to geographical information.

In order to try to ensure the rates of easy access to this tool for looking at constellations, Microsoft has made the new Bing Maps-enabled version of WorldWide Telescope accessible through several browsers. Astronomy enthusiasts using either Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox as their browser of preference will be able to use the tool to satisfy their curiosity about constellations, though the Silverlight program, also available from Microsoft, must be installed before either of these browsers will support the desired for functions associated with the Bing Maps WorldWide Telescope. One program which will not interact well with the Bing Maps WorldWide Telescope is Google Chrome, which should thus be turned if installed on a user’s computer in order to allow the program to function successfully.

In important new science news, research into the prehistory of the human race has uncovered previously unknown physical evidence of another group of the human family of species. Though the world of science has been given over to discussion and debate over this discovery since it was announced on March 24 2010, all of this activity amongst scientific research professionals and amateur observers is due solely to a single piece of tiny physical evidence, one bone that comes from a child’s little finger. This science news began with the uncovering of the artifact by a team which searched a cave in the Altai mountain range, which is located in the southern regions of Siberia. The team of researchers came from Russia and achieved the actual discovery of the bone in 2008, in a place which is now being referred to by scientists as the Denisova cave. The analysis suggesting that this discovery might have even more ramifications for the world of science that could be determined initially by the original group of researchers came out of and were backed by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, a science institution which based out of Leipzig, Germany. The field of Science news is particularly excited by the finding made by the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology as to the opinion that the discovery of the Denisova child is conspicuously different in its DNA makeup from both modern day humans and from the Neanderthal species that preceded the modern day form of humans.

This science news was first publicized through a report published on the Internet through the science journal Nature. The science findings, which the researchers hasten to remind the general public and the science community should not be considered to represent conclusions, come from a procedure of extracting a kind of DNA from the bone which is referred to as mitochondrial. The studying of this data and comparison to information on other older forms of the human species suggested that the subset of primeval humans from which the owner of the bone came from migrated out of Africa independently of the two known forms of archaic humans, about one million years ago, in contrast to Homo Erectus’s departure from Africa two million years ago and the Neanderthals half a million years ago.

One possibility that could reduce the overall significance of this item of science news, though not completely in its relevance, would be the conclusion, still possible on the part of the DNA analysis researchers, that the child to which the discovered bone belonged was a member of a population derived merely from interbreeding between a known population of archaic humans and an another branch of the human family as yet undiscovered in its original state by modern day science. Though the results of testing on mitochondrial DNA may have provided the ideas about the significance of this discovery that have been so far available, conclusions from analysis of the child’s DNA are still being waited for.
